About Beatrice

Beatrice Smith was born in Rwanda where she lived with her mum, dad and five brothers and sisters until 1994. At just ten years of age, a brutal genocide tore her country apart, resulting in her having to flee from her home at an early age. After several attempts on her and her family’s lives, they fled to neighbouring Zaire, now DRC where they stayed for a few months before moving on to Nairobi, Kenya. Travelling from country to country searching for a safe home, they finally settled in the UK where they have lived for the past seventeen years.

Beatrice is wife to Stuart, mother to Isabella and Charlie, and author of The Search for Home, which chronicles hers and her family’s journey as refugees from the Rwandan genocide.  She is passionate about Jesus and about people and loves meeting new people and talking, a lot. She loves coffee and laughter and cake and just doing life with people, mostly across the dining table.
